A Great Holiday Read - The Hunger Games

Have just read the book and bumped into Micah and Brady at the movie. It is absolutely brilliant and a trilogy so I will now have to read the 2nd and 3rd book.

Short blurb...
Set in a dark vision of the near future, a terrifying reality TV show is taking place. Twelve boys and twelve girls are forced to appear in a live event called The Hunger Games. There is only one rule: kill or be killed. When sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdee steps forward to take her younger sister's place in the games, she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.

The Hunger Games is a young adult novel written by American television writer and novelist Suzanne Collins. It was first published on September 14, 2008, by Scholastic. It is written in the voice of sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world (a sub-genre of science fiction) in the country of Panem where the countries of North America once existed. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, holds hegemony over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle in which only one person can survive.
